Meta CEO admits there were mistakes in staff adjustments during the AI pivot, pledges no more widespread layoffs this year.
According to Reuters on June 13, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged in an internal memo that the company made some missteps in layoffs during the AI transition, while reiterating that there won't be any large-scale layoffs across the company in 2026.
Zuckerberg stated that due to the rapid development and complexity of AI, the company has made some errors and may make more in the future during the transition;
However, at this stage, Meta will focus on maintaining organizational stability and won't overcommit to the pace of transformation, while arranging suitable new positions for those reassigned employees.
In May, Meta initiated a massive organizational overhaul, completing around 8,000 layoffs globally, while reallocating 7,000 employees to a newly established AI department.
Moreover, to fully position itself in the AI space, the company has invested hundreds of billions in AI infrastructure, attempting to achieve a comprehensive pivot to the AI sector through significant internal restructuring.
In summary, Zuckerberg's admission of mistakes not only reveals the real issues behind the structural adjustments but also reflects the internal pains faced by global tech giants during aggressive AI transformations, highlighting the complexity and real challenges inherent in industry changes.
